CEC (California)

It is the California Energy Commission's mission to assess, advocate and act through public/private partnerships to improve energy systems that promote a strong economy and a healthy environment. The California Energy Commission is the state's primary energy policy and planning agency. Created by the Legislature in 1974 and located in Sacramento, the Commission responsibilities include promoting energy efficiency by setting the state's appliance and building efficiency standards and working with local government to enforce those standards.

REACH (European Union)

REACH is a new European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use (EC 1907/2006). It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances. The new law entered into force on 1 June 2007.

Battery Directive (European Union)

In July 2006, the European Parliament and the EU Council of Ministers agreed on a compromise to revise the 1991 Directive on batteries and accumulators. The new directive provides for a minimal ban on cadmium and mercury as well as for collecting and recycling targets to be reached by 2016 at the latest.

The Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive applies to companies that manufacture, sell, distribute, electronic equipment (EEE), and to consumers within the European Union. The Directive is intended to reduce packaging waste through consumer education and by improving the effectiveness of collection and recycling.

Power On/Off Button

The Power On/Off button allows customers to turn off their router/gateway when not in use. Products without an on/off button can only be powered down by physically unplugging it, and in many cases the cord falls behind a desk in a mess of cables, making it very difficult to find later. For this reason, many customers do not power down their routers, and therefore consume more energy when needed. The Power On/Off button addresses this issue.

Wireless On/Off Button

The Wireless On/Off button allows customers to turn off the wireless portion of their router/gateway when not in use. A wireless router consumes up to 30% less power with the wireless turned off, then with it on. With the Wireless On/Off button, it is simple for our customers to turn off the wireless when they are sleeping at night, or at work in the daytime. Turning off wireless also has a security benefit, since it prevents anyone from hacking into the wireless network.

Wireless Output Power Management

Tri- level WiFi transmit power setting provides the flexibility to control the WiFi Transmit power to optimize the wireless range. Wifi power consumption for a router or Gateway could be reduced to up to 75% from its peak power consumption for serving a small to medium size home, while boosted to maximum power for a large homes and businesses.

Low power mode that reduces overall energy usage when a port is not in use.

Port Auto Power Down

Switch can detect whether or not a device is connected to each port. If no device is connected to a port, the switch will automatically power down that port.

Cable Length Power Save

NETGEAR Green Smart and Managed Switches can detect the length of the cables attached to each port. The shorter the cable, the less power required to transmit.

Disk Spin Down

Disk spin-down timers let users set the ideal period length before disk drives automatically shut down to conserve energy. Spin up will make a slight impact on performance for the next system request in exchange for lower wear and reduced power consumption.

Power On/Off Timer

The Power On/Off Timer lets a user preset a schedule to determine when a system comes on and turns off. When used consistently, it can significantly reduce system wear and energy consumption.

Smart Cooling Fan

Regulates the speed of the fan based on an increase or decrease in temperature.

Wake On LAN

Allows the device to be turned on or woken up by a network message.
